Abu Dhabi Golf Championship 2010 Masters Odds: Paul Lawrie had a great rivalry in the family to thank him for his hot start by the Abu Dhabi Championship yesterday.

The Scot has risen just one shot off the lead with a flawless six under 66 – his best opening round over two years.

And Lawrie put his magnificent performance until after having spent the past two weeks locked in battle with their two children, crazy golf on a nine-hole course in Dubai.

This preparation allows the open field coil compared to 1999 six birdies in the national road yesterday to sit among the nine players in a part of the fourth, while Ian Poulter at the head of the board of seven-under with compatriot Richard Bland United Kingdom and South African Keith Horne.

Lawrie said: “We have been in Dubai with children for almost two weeks and have a nine-hole course at Jebel Ali, so I played a lot of golf during the Christmas celebration.

“I do not practice and just play nine holes per day warmed, with Craig and Michael – both are very strong.

“Craig is 14 and played with eight and Michael, who is 11, fell to 14-handicap when the two are very useful. It is difficult to overcome, but it’s true!

“I’m not surprised to have made a good start because I played a lot of golf with my two children and hit the ball very well. It’s good to be back.”

Lawrie score was his lowest score in the first round since its inception in 2007 Dunhill Links Championship with a 66.

And the climax came with a couple great escape and five sessions, where he played the 17th.

Lawrie found a bunker with his tee shot, then slipped while playing his three wood on the sand. The ball drifted toward the far right in the waste sector, where he managed to move up and down for birdie.

Poulter co-leader has saved the best for the end of a brilliant 70-feet down putt on 18.

He said: “I hit 10 feet, probably too, but was online and the opportunity to touch the bottom of the hole, then jumped and fell.

“I did not go as fast as after a break of five weeks, but since then I have.”

Meanwhile, Lawrie six years are Alvaro Quiros and Sergio Garcia in the world No. 10 Rory McIlroy.
